Our Approach
Montessori is not your typical education system and Studio Montessori is not a typical preschool. Our view of education is unique in that we believe education is an aid to life not a curriculum for school or university success. When you choose Studio Montessori, you are choosing a school that takes a great interest in your child’s personality and development. Although we offer a broad and deep curriculum that includes math, reading, music, and science, they take second place to your child’s development of independence, will, self-control, compassion, and love of life. In other words, our work is to support the whole person not just their academic learning. Your child’s interest and personality will guide us to know what activities, life skills, and academic lessons are most appropriate for them to be learning in the moment.
As a small, yet very diverse international preschool,
we seek to nurture global citizenship.
Our Maternelle classroom is a bilingual French/English program where children learn French naturally as they interact with their French speaking teachers in all aspects of their day at Studio Montessori.
As you decide on the right learning community for your family, please know that Studio Montessori places a premium on community. No one family is concerned only with the development of their own child. Rather all families share a deep love and interest in all the children in our community. Our mutual commitment to inclusivity means that we recognize that as a school we must seek to be a welcoming environment for all families. Studio Montessori is an intentional community with amazing teachers and parents who are willing to work together for the good of all children and families. We also actively engage with other preschools to discuss issues, strategize how to best support each other through difficulties and build a network of mindful reflective preschools. We recognize that some members have difficult situations or even children that need extra support from the community as a whole. In times of difficulty and social unrest commitment has always been to reflect, course correct, and forgive one another as it models the response we hope to instill in the children. We work and live a mutual trust that we (both parents and staff) are working hard to make the changes needed to support the best development of children not just at Studio Montessori but everywhere. We seek families that share these values to join our community.
“The child who has never learned to work by himself, to set goals for his own acts, or to be the master of his own force of will is recognizable in the adult who lets others guide his will and feels a constant need for approval of others.”
